BPBD DKI Minta Warga Waspada Potensi Banjir Pesisir

Jakarta Issues Warning for Potential Coastal Flooding

The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has issued an early warning for potential coastal flooding, or "rob," expected to last from January 13 to 20, 2026.

Coastal communities must increase their preparedness

The alert follows a report from the Tanjung Priok Maritime Meteorological Station (BMKG), which indicates that peak high tides are coinciding with the New Moon phase.

Jakarta BPBD Head, Isnawa Adji stated that this phenomenon is expected to surge sea levels along Jakarta’s northern coastline, with tides predicted to peak daily between 6 AM and 12 PM.

22 Jakarta Neighborhoods Remain Flooded Tuesday Morning

The areas at risk include Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, Kamal, Marunda, Cilincing, Kalibaru, Muara Angke, Tanjung Priok, and Seribu Islands.

"Coastal communities must increase their preparedness, as these high tides can persist for several consecutive days," he explained.

He urged residents to stay alert to rapidly changing weather and sea conditions and advised against any activities in high-risk coastal zones during peak tide hours.

“Residents should also ensure that local drainage systems are clear to prevent water from pooling around their homes,” he asserted.

BPBD is urging the public to stay informed through official digital channels, including the tidal alert page at bpbd.jakarta.go.id/gelombanglaut and the real-time monitoring site pantaubanjir.jakarta.go.id. Flooding can be reported directly via JAKI app.

“The city’s toll-free 112 emergency hotline is also on standby to respond to urgent calls for help,” he added.
